Signed, titled, and dated on verso.

A prominent leader of the Abstract Expressionist movement, Gottlieb incorporated tribal and mythological symbols into his painting, influenced by Surrealism, and the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Gottlieb's best known works were produced in the 1960s, as he worked on his Burst series. Green Disc is a variation of the motif that he often employed in the pictographs of the Burst series; a rounded sphere hangs in the upper half of the canvas, above a series of horizontal forms in the lower portion of the canvas. Gottlieb often drew inspiration from the idea of the subconscious, and often suggested that the imagery within his paintings was a means of expressing the sublime reality that he saw in his surroundings and environment.
