Boedi Widjaja at Singapore Art Week 2018
Asian Film Archive, State of Motion, various locations
January 12 - February 2, 2018
The 2018 edition of State of Motion is organised by Asian Film Archive, and is part of Singapore Art Week 2018. Curated by Kamiliah Bahdar, Boedi Widjaja joins other artists and filmmakers such as Irfan Kasban, Mintio, Tan Peiling and Khairulddin Wahab in this year's program line up.
State of Motion looks at films as records of social histories and latent discourses. With the theme of "Sejarah-ku", Malay for "my history", the film program showcases seminal Malay-language films in the historical Shaw Malay Film Productions Ltd, alongside a curated program of artworks and performances made in response to the films.
For this series, Widjaja invites participants to stand under a flyover at Sungei Serangoon as he presents PATH. 9, ))) ) ) )). Path. is a live art series that Widjaja has developed since 2012; the ninth part in this series references the longitudinal waves formed by sound in its title. Collaborating with Tong Wei Jie to incorporate a sound component in his live art, the work furthers Widjaja's inquiry into the performative potential of place, movement, origin and identity.
